Veneers Q & A

What are veneers?

Veneers are thin shells shaped and colored just like natural teeth. Dr. Veal permanently seals them to the front of your teeth, where they cover up cosmetic defects and improve the appearance of your smile.

Veneers are typically made from porcelain, which looks similar to tooth enamel in both color and translucency. Veneers look as natural as they do beautiful. They are made from an impression of your teeth, so they fit perfectly and blend in seamlessly with the rest of your smile.

How can veneers improve my smile?

By covering up the front side of your teeth, veneers can improve several cosmetic concerns, including:

  • Cracked or fractured teeth
  • Chipped or broken teeth
  • Discolored teeth that haven’t improved with professional whitening
  • Crooked teeth
  • Teeth that are spaced too far apart
  • Misshapen teeth
  • Teeth that are too small

With veneers, Dr. Veal can also improve the symmetry of your smile and generally redesign its appearance.

Why should I get veneers?

Veneers are an excellent solution if you want a minimally invasive and cost-effective solution for improving the appearance of your smile.

They’re more affordable than crowns, but similarly effective in enhancing the cosmetic quality of your teeth. They’re more stain-resistant than cosmetic bonding as well.

What is involved in getting veneers?

First, you consult with Dr. Veal to pick a size, shape, and color for your veneers. Dr. Veal will guide you in your choice of veneers, making sure they give you the smile you’ve always wanted while still looking natural while complementing your facial features.

Then, he removes some enamel to make room for your veneers and takes an impression of your mouth. You wear a set of temporary veneers while he sends the impression to a lab that custom-builds your permanent restorations.

When the lab is finished, you come back for a second appointment, where Dr. Veal permanently bonds them to your teeth.

How do I care for my veneers?

You can care for your veneers just like your natural teeth, with regular brushing and flossing at home, and regular dental cleanings and exams.

To make your veneers last for as long as possible, you should avoid biting on hard objects, like ice or your fingernails, since veneers might crack or chip if you’re not careful.
